Spring Fun in Westminster-Carroll

Spring is here! There are some wonderful events in the community that will get you outside and celebrating the season.

Get Outside and smell the flowers:

Head to a local park for some fresh air and fun! 

Charlotte’s Quest Nature Center will be holding their Annual Community Plant Swap on May 17th. Bring unwanted plants from your garden and swap them for something else! The event also features an ask the master gardner session, free refreshments, and sunshine, fresh air, and friendly faces!

Spend a Saturday perusing local Farmer’s markets at the Carroll AG Center! 

Get to know Hashawha a little better this spring on a guided nature hike with the Park Naturalist. Each month, March through May, you will focus on a different topic as you hike up to one mile. Upon returning, you will record what you’ve observed to share with others. Don't forget your binoculars and water bottle!

Search for salamanders, track tadpoles, go fishing, canoeing, or stargaze at one of Bear Branch Nature Center’s awesome Spring programs

Easter Bunny Sightings:

The Easter Bunny will hop his way into center court at the Townmall of Westminster on March 28th and stay there until April 11th!

Enjoy breakfast and pictures with the Easter bunny at local fire halls! 

Easter Egg Hunts:

Check out the annual Easter Egg Hunt at Westminster’s City Park! This FREE event is always an egg-citing time!  Don’t forget to bring your basket to collect all the eggs.  Each age group will have one golden ticket egg hidden among the eggs. 15,000 candy stuffed eggs, over 150 prize eggs, crafts & games, and the 4-H Rabbit and Cavy Club bunny petting zoo. No registration required. April 4th.

Egg hunts aren't just for kids anymore and this one is only for adults 21 and up! They will be hiding over 500 eggs along the trails of Hashawha Environmental Center. Each egg will contain a raffle ticket that you can use to win wine, chocolate, giftcards and more! Bring a friend and a flashlight and meet in the nature center! April 4th. 

Enjoy the beautiful scenery while helping your little ones hunt for eggs at the Seasons at Magnolia Manor egg hunt!

On April 10th, with Happy on Hooves, Children will have a blast on this hand-led horseback ride through a bunny trail for their chance to find hidden easter eggs! Hidden eggs will contain candy and little toys. Parents can ride along with their children at the same price or walk alongside them on the trail at no cost. 

Eggs aren't only for the birds! Bear Branch Nature Center will celebrate the spring season by hiding over 300 eggs around the nature center and along their vista trail. Bring your family and your flashlight to the nature center for a hunt through the park in the dark on April 11th!

Charlotte’s quest is holding a member’s only Easter egg hunt the Saturday before Easter! Free for current members or purchase a membership ($15/yr) to attend! If you want to skip the crowds, this event is for you. The eggs will be hidden in the gardens!

Egg-cellent Spring Events:

Bear Branch will hold its Maple Sugarin’ Festival the weekend of March 7th and 8th. This annual sweet event includes tree tapping demonstrations, maple syrup themed activities, and a delicious pancake breakfast!

Enjoy a Spring day at the farm with Local Homestead Product’s Springfest!

Manchester Happenings will be hosting their Second Annual Easter Egg Scramble Event for the whole Family again this year at Christmas Tree Park on April 4th, 2020 from 11-3. Directly following the MVFD breakfast, the Easter Bunny will arrive by fire truck to kick off the days events! There will be egg hunts, exciting family activities, food, vendors and fun for all ages!

“Every spring, tens of thousands of volunteers come together to pick up trash from local streams, creeks, rivers, parks, and neighborhoods as part of the Alliance’s Project Clean Stream — the largest cleanup event in the Chesapeake Bay region!” Be a part of this important program at Bear Branch Nature Center. Call Bear Branch at 410-386-3580 by April 4 to sign up!

April showers bring May meowers on April 18th! Help the Carroll County Humane Society prepare for their spring kitten arrivals!  Bring a gift from their wish list for the kittens. Food, Games, and Crafts.

Come on out for a Wine Stroll in historic Downtown Westminster on April 25th, featuring local Maryland and Pennsylvania vineyards along Main Street! There will also be local artisan, craft, and food vendors!  Pop Stereo plays at 11am.  Several other bands play throughout the day.  

Youth Fishing Rodeos will be held at the Westminster Community Pond of April 26th as well as at Krimgold Park on May 17th!

The Carroll County Farmers Market is holding its Mother’s Day Show on May 9th; hours are 8:00am – 2:00pm. The market is all indoors with 60 vendors and a free giveaway of a flowering plant to the first 500 moms to arrive.

Sign your child up for an awesome Spring sport or activity in Carroll County such as tennis, gymnastics, tumbling, soccer, lacrosse, or STEM Camp through Carroll County Parks and Recreation!

Get artsy with your kids with a clay, watercolor, or wood painting class.

Spring Showers Sanity Savers:

Check out one of Bear Branch Nature Center’s amazing planetarium shows!

Bounce out your kids’ energy, shoot some hoops, or ride scooters at The Fun n Fit Factory!

A short drive will take you to other indoor play places at Bubula Playground in Pikesville or Youth Play in Mount Airy!

Mini-golf, laser tag, inflatables, bummer cars, and arcade games are all a few minutes away at the Players Fun Zone!

Check out swim classes or family swim nights at the Kids First Swim School.

Sign up for classes at TriStar Martial Arts to fight off the Winter blues or check out their events page for open activities! 

Check out the displays, animals, exhibits, or take one of the Winter classes at nearby nature centers: Bear Branch Nature Center Piney Run Nature Center, Charlotte’s Quest Nature Center, or Irvine Nature Center!

Take a short drive to New Market for a day of fun and learning at The Original Playhouse Children’s Museum.

Lace up those roller skates and bring the family to nearby Hanover, PA for a day of skating at the Magic Elm Roller Rink!

Did you know that each of the public libraries has a kid’s play area with many toys and activities? Head to one of the SIX awesome libraries in Carroll County for free play or story time programs

Have your child grab a few friends and head to Battleground Lounge at the TownMall of Westminster for some gaming fun!

Head to the Townmall of Westminster for a walk inside to check out the stores and grab your spare change to let your child ride the many coin-operated rides! (And don’t forget to enjoy some warm, fresh pretzels from Auntie Anne’s after).

Check out a new movie in the new RC theatres in Westminster. You can cuddle up with your child in the comfy new recliner seats.  

Carroll Gymnastics offers classes for kids of all ages and they have open gym hours. Check their website for days and times!

Strike up a new hobby at Thunderhead Bowling for a fun, family day!

Head to COB51 for drop-in hours to create some awesome artwork or sign up for one of their wonderful programs!

Firehouse Pottery in Taneytown is sure to help get your creative juices flowing while still keeping dry inside!

Meltdown DIY in Eldersburg is another great art option.

Check out the Makerspace areas at local libraries! Many of them have a table with crafting materials or other activities that are regularly changed out.

Look at the Kids Workshop Schedule at Home Depot for some little woodworking and painting crafts. This is free and the kids get an apron and a pin for every workshop that they complete!

Michaels has programs for kids of various ages to flex their creative muscles.
