Description

There were many mills in this area. The most popular would have been a grist mill that ground wheat into flour. Children will experience the mill and how it works from the book The Little Red Hen and experience being a miller.

General Information

For children 4 to 9 years

Children will discover what it was like to live in Carroll County in the 1800’s. They will

travel back in time and experience living on farms and in towns through creative activities, songs, stories and crafts. This program focuses on a different topic each class and includes a craft or activity that reinforces the theme.

Classes are held on various Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. either inside or outside. Inside classes are held at the Koontz-Yingling Learning Center at Cockey’s, 216 East Main Street in Westminster, MD. Outside classes will be held next to the parking lot in the back.

Caregivers accompanying a child must be 18 years or older and are required to remain near the class location. Please let us know of any food or medical restrictions. The Historical Society of Carroll County is taking great precautions during the Covid pandemic. Until otherwise noted all visitors in the building and outside by the class, are required to wear a mask, stay 6 feet apart when possible, use sanitizer and caregivers must sign a Covid19 liability form and turn it in to Miss Wendy.

For each class, there is a $6.00 charge which includes materials.

Pre- registration is required; registration closes the Monday before the class.
