August 8th - 14th
- Reading in the Parks Contest at Taneytown Parks - Pop into Taneytown parks for some reading time with a book, magazine, paper, comic book (or whatever you like to read) between Sunday, Aug. 7th and Saturday, August 13th. Raffles will be entered for participants!
- Drop-in Hours at Together We Own It - Head to TWOIT to get out of the heat and get something to eat! They will have snacks, video games, art, movies, billiards, anime, and more! This is FREE for youth ages 12-18.
- Blast Off to Space at Taneytown Library - What do you know about the planets in our galaxy? Join to learn some cool facts and get moving with a fun game about planets and orbits. Stay for an out-of-this-world craft! Taught by 4-H Extension Educator Torrey Silliman.
- Food Science: Why Does Popcorn Pop? At the Exploration Commons Kitchen - Become a kid food scientist and conduct experiments to learn how and why popcorn pops! Taste-testing will be part of the scientific method!
- Full Moon Owl Prowl at Piney Run Nature Center - Joining the park naturalist and the full moon to guide us through the woods of Piney Run Park. Using an owl caller, you will quietly walk through the woods and search for clues of owls that call Piney Run home. Following the hike, you will complete the evening by the campfire, with some tasty s'mores!
- Strawberry DNA Extraction at Exploration Commons Kitchen - Did you know that your favorite fruit has enough DNA to be seen without a microscope? Join to learn about DNA and perform your own strawberry DNA extraction!
- Peach Festival at the Farmers Market - Local peaches, peach sundaes, peach scones, peach cobblers, peach pies, peach cakes, and other food items are offered for sale.
- Let’s Go Dip-Netting at Piney Run Park - Ever wondered what's living in the water? Using dip nets, buckets and our imagination, we will wade, scoop, and explore the bottom of Piney Run Lake for critters. Participants will meet at the nature center and hike down to the lake together.
- Pub Dog Brewery Tour - Get a behind the scenes brewery tour complete with craft beer samples for $5. 1pm, 2pm and 3pm tour. No reservations necessary, register 15 minutes before the start time of the tour. Cheers!
- Movie in the Park: Encanto - Join at Memorial Park on Saturday, August 13th for a free Family Movie Night featuring the movie "Encanto."
