January 25th-31st

  1. 3D String Art Earrings with the CCPL - Learn how to create one-of-a-kind jewelry by combining 3D printed frames and string art design. Take home kits with all supplies will be provided and available to pick up from your library branch. Registrants will receive an email with pickup instructions.
  1. Fast Food Trivia Night with the CCPL - Can you sing the Big Mac jingle in your sleep? Have you had passionate late-night debates with your friends about who has the best fries? You're in good company. Join CCPL staff for fast food trivia live on Zoom!
  1. National Spouses Day - National Spouses Day is held each year on January 26th!  Love the one you're with. Take a minute to tell them you do.
  1. Drive-Thru Craft: Polar Bear - Looking to get out of the house with the kids? Come to the Carroll County Parks and Recreation Department’s drive-thru activity on January 19 and pick up your craft to make at home! This is free for kids (or parents picking up for children), while supplies last. Must stay in the car, no registration required.
  1. Tell Us How You Lived: Unearthing Union Mills’ History with the CCPL - Carroll County’s Union Mills is an exceptionally significant and well-preserved industrial and residential complex, but how did professional historians and archaeologists make that determination? Join moderator Elizabeth Anderson Comer, principal of EAC/Archaeology, Inc., and a team of experts as they present the results of a multi-year research project. Archaeological, architectural, cultural landscape, LiDAR, and documentary research will be presented by Dr. Rob Wanner, Dr. Paula Stoner Reed, and Paul Albert. This public programming is an opportunity for the Union Mills Homestead’s many stakeholders, including the public at large, to learn about the important findings made in the course of this project, which was made possible by a grant from the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority.
  1. International Polar Bear Day - International Polar Bear Day on January 27 is an unofficial holiday created by Polar Bear International (PBI). It raises awareness of the impact of global warming on Polar Bears. Take a trip to the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore and tell them that Macaroni Kid Westminster-Carroll sent you!
  1. Winter Scavenger Hunt at Bear Branch Nature Center - It looks quiet and peaceful outside but there are still lots of things going on. In this program, you will head outside to examine some of the more subtle signs of winter with a nature scavenger hunt. Bring a magnifying glass and be prepared to take home some of nature’s gifts!
  1. An Unbirthday Party with Ms. Maria at the CCPL - Calling all kids that had quarantine birthdays and cancelled parties, have we got the program for you! Join Ms. Maria for some books, silly songs, and fun to celebrate all the unbirthdays that happened this past year.  
  1. Make a Wire-Wrapped Marble Pendant with the CCPL - You will be making a wire-wrapped marble pendant with virtual instructions from CCPL staff.
  1. Raptor Photo Shoot at Hashawha - Capture our birds of prey on camera in their natural surroundings,photographers of all levels are welcome. Bring your camera or smartphone.
