Top 10 of the Week

December 28th-January 3rd

  1. Winter Nature Experience - Even in winter, Hashawha is full of life and wonder. Explore the forests and fields while learning more about the plants and animals that call this beautiful place home. We will learn more about reptiles and amphibians, trees, raptors, and conclude the day with a night hike and “owl prowl”. Students will make a couple of crafts to take home, too! This program is open to students ages 9-12 years old. Two meals (lunch and dinner) will be provided. All participants will be asked to socially distance and to wear a mask when social distancing is not possible.
  1. Design your own Wigglebot with the CCPL - Learn how to use a cup, motor, battery, and more to make your own moving robot! Craft kits are available for this program at the branch of your choice! After registration, participants will receive an email informing them when and where they may pick up a bag of activity supplies through Express Pickup! On the day of the program, watch the pre-recorded video to learn how to make your wigglebot! Craft kits will be available for pickup Monday, December 14th through Monday, January 4th.
  1. Card Playing Day - Tired of all the holiday activities? Need a break before the New Year fun begins? Get your family and friends together for a quiet and fun night in on Card Playing Day. Held annually on December 28, the day celebrates card games and aims to bring together family and friends after a busy holiday season.
  1. Animal Crossing KeyChain - Create your own super cute one of a kind Animal Crossing keychain! All materials will be provided in the take home kit. Kits will be available for pick up at the Eldersburg Branch on December 29th. All registered participants will be emailed the details.
  1. Bacon Day - On December 30th, get your sizzle on and celebrate this day by feasting with a bacon-filled meal at Bullocks Country Meats. Let them know Macaroni Kid Westminster-Carroll sent you!
  1. Bring Your Pet Zoom Day with the CCPL - Usually your cat or dog interrupts your Zoom meetings, but this is their chance to shine! Each (human) participant will get a few minutes to spotlight their pet; you can show off a trick, tell a funny story, or even just cuddle with them! Furry pets, scaly pets, slippery pets...come one, come all! Each family only needs to register once.
  1. Friday Fix with Ms. Mandy with the CCPL - Looking for some book recommendations? Join us for the Friday Fix! Ms. Mandy will choose a new category each week and share some books.
  1. Science Fiction Day - The holiday, held on January 2nd, focuses on a genre of literature that explores the effect of imaginary change through technological innovations, scientific discoveries, natural events and disasters and evolution on people and their relationships. Usually, works of science fiction (sci-fi) are set in the near or distant future, and unlike fantasy, sci-fi tends to stay away from the supernatural and the magical.
  1. Preschool Practice Pack with the CCPL - ABCs and 123s are just some of the skills children and caregivers can practice with a take home, literacy, math, or science pack.  Packs will include practice activity sheets and supportive materials to enhance learning. A new kit will be available each week of January, while supplies last, at the North Carroll Branch during library hours. Preschoolers may pick up one new pack during their visit.

      10. Bike Ride at Cape Horn Park - Get some exercise on the paved path at Cape Horn Park!
