Mt. Airy Children's Dental Assoc. Spread the Love (of Dental Health)!

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month

By Mt. Airy Children's Dental Associates February 1, 2023

February is set aside each year by the American Dental Association, or ADA, as National Children’s Dental Health Month to educate and stress the importance of starting good oral health habits at the earliest possible age.

Mt. Airy Children’s Dental Associates reserves the first Friday of every February for Give Kids a Smile day, a day in which children who might not have access to dental care are bussed from surrounding schools to the office for a dental screening. The office also sends hygienists into area schools, preschools and daycares to educate children about brushing, flossing and healthy eating habits.

Baby teeth are important! They help children speak, chew and aid in forming a path for permanent teeth to erupt. The ADA, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Academy of Pediatrics, all recommend a first time dental visit for your child by the first birthday or first tooth. Specialists detect early decay, provide education on proper oral care, the use of bottles, breast feeding, sippy cups, fluoride, pacifier use, thumb sucking and more. This early visit is treated like a “well-baby” dental checkup, and establishes a “dental home” for a lifetime of excellent dental health.

At Mt. Airy Children’s Dental Associates, we believe strongly in the benefit of the age one visit. Therefore every child’s first visit up to the age of 18 months is complimentary. The way pediatricians are trained to meet a child’s medical needs, our pediatric specialists are uniquely qualified to protect your child’s oral health. All of this is accomplished in a child-centered, parent-friendly environment with our team of specially trained doctors and enthusiastic staff.

When your child is ready for a first time orthodontic consult this too is complimentary with our orthodontist on staff, Dr. Stuart Sheer. Dr. Sheer is a certified Invisalign® provider and treats adults as well as children.

Mt. Airy Children’s Dental Associates is truly your dental home from infancy thru college!
